Facebook announced the creation of 10,000 job opportunities in the European Union to work on the establishment of a project called "Metaverse".
In a statement, the company said: “we’re announcing a plan to create 10,000 new high-skilled jobs within the European Union (EU) over the next five years. This investment is a vote of confidence in the strength of the European tech industry and the potential of European tech talent".
"As we begin the journey of bringing the metaverse to life, the need for highly specialized engineers is one of Facebook’s most pressing priorities. We look forward to working with governments across the EU to find the right people and the right markets to take this forward, as part of an upcoming recruitment drive across the region. And as Facebook continues to grow in Europe, we hope to invest more in its talent and continue to innovate in Europe, for Europe and the world".
Facebook says Metaverse will not be owned or operated by a single company.
What is metaverse technology?
It is noteworthy that the "Metaverse" project is based on establishing a version of the Internet with virtual reality technology, which the company sees as embodying the future. The term "metaverse" refers to digital worlds in which multiple people can interact in a 3D environment.
That is, in theory, users could sit around a virtual meeting table with colleagues who are elsewhere, or even go to a coffee shop for a coffee with someone who lives in another country.
