Ronaldo responds in a statement to Manchester United's decision to exclude him from the Chelsea match

The Portuguese star Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo issued a statement in his defense of his commitment after leaving Old Trafford Stadium before the final whistle, during the 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Wednesday.

Manchester United announced in a statement today, Thursday, that the Portuguese striker will not be included in the list for the Chelsea match in the English Premier League next Saturday.

Substitute Ronaldo, who did not participate in Wednesday's 2-0 win over the London club, headed to the dressing room tunnel a few minutes before the end of the match, after Dutch coach Erik Ten Hag left him again on the bench.

But Ronaldo issued a statement on his official accounts on social media following the United statement, in which he said: "As I have always done throughout my career, I try to live and play with respect towards my colleagues, opponents and coach. This has not changed. I have not changed. I am the same person and professional that I have been all along. The last 20 years of my football career, respect has always played a very important role in the decision-making process."

The 37-year-old added: “I started very young and the examples of older and more experienced players were always very important to me. So, later on, I always tried to set an example for the youngsters who grew up in all the teams I played for. To bad Fortunately, this is not always possible and sometimes the emotion of the moment is stronger than us.

"At the moment, I feel I have to keep working hard at Carrington (United training centre), supporting my teammates and preparing for everything in any match. Giving in to pressure is not an option. It wasn't. This is Manchester United, and we must stand united. Soon we will be together again."

This comes at a time when British press reports indicated that Manchester United is considering ending Ronaldo’s contract before its end and allowing him to leave for free next January in the event of his non-compliance, but with this statement the situation returned to normal after the Portuguese star confirmed his commitment again. .

Ronaldo was seeking to leave Manchester United last summer to play in the Champions League, but he found it difficult to move to one of the competing clubs in the most prominent continental championship because of his huge salary and his lack of agreement to sit as a substitute.

The 37-year-old Ronaldo scored 24 goals in all competitions with Manchester United last season, but he participated mainly in only two games this season in the league.

United is fifth with 19 points, one point behind fourth-placed Chelsea, after ten games.
