The Brussels Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed today, Saturday, that a young man has been detained on suspicion of pushing a woman into the path of an oncoming train at an underground station in the center of the Belgian capital. The young man may be arrested for attempted murder.
A video circulated by activists on the communication sites showed the man deliberately pushing a woman from the back when the subway was coming.
It was reported that the train driver applied the emergency brake and managed to avoid running over the woman. A spokesman for the local transport company confirmed that the woman was rushed to the pier.
According to a Belgian newspaper, the accident occurred at approximately 07:45 pm local time at a metro station in the city center.
"The accident caused a halt to traffic in the affected area until 8:15 pm"..The Belgian news agency (Belga) reported.
