Surgeons at University College London Hospital have unveiled a new treatment for prostate cancer that takes only an hour.
The method, which researchers expect will change methods of treating prostate cancer, depends on the use of electric current to destroy hard-to-reach tumors.
Surgeons called the new treatment "NanoKnife", as it sends rapid electrical pulses to the tumor, which makes it cut cancer cells without the need to make any incisions in the skin, according to the “NZ Herald.”
How successful is NanoKnife?
For his part, UCSD consultant urologist Professor Mark Emberton explained that it is a new way to destroy cancer cells, and it is so simple that surgeons can be trained in it quickly.
“The treatment is amazing and enables us to reach tumors in areas that a scalpel might not reach,” he said
And he stated: “The treatment is amazing and enables us to reach tumors in areas that the surgeon may not reach,” pointing out: “The treatment can be performed in less than an hour, as surgeons can perform at least twice the number of operations in the time it usually takes to perform a traditional operation, and without Hospital stay.”
