A Collier County police officer was forced to shoot a tiger at the Naples Zoo in Florida, after it attacked a cleaning worker who inserted his arm into a fence on Wednesday evening, according to NBC2 News.

The video showed terrifying moments as a policeman ran toward a distress sound and moaned after the tiger seized the arm of a zoo cleaner after petting or feeding the tiger, both of which are not authorized by the zoo, according to the deputies.

Preliminary information provided to CCSO officials indicated that the 8-year-old tiger grabbed the arm of the 26-year-old, River Rosenquist of Naples, and pulled her to the fence after the zoo was closed, entering an unauthorized area for the animals, at which point the named tiger grabbed Echo in his arm called 911 himself to say he had been attacked by the animal.

The video shows Rosenquist, covered in blood, screaming in pain: "Please help me! Gosh! Shot him! I'm going to die!", and after unsuccessful attempts, the policeman decided to shoot the tiger to save the man.

Jack Mulvena, president and CEO of the zoo said that while they missed the rare Echo, they fully supported the difficult decision the MP had to make in a split second.

Eko tiger autopsy scheduled

He said the tiger's body is being kept at the zoo hospital and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

He said that the bullet from the policeman's pistol hit Eko in the neck and did not exit the tiger's body. Mulvena said there was no blood in the tiger's cage and an autopsy will likely show that Eko died of internal bleeding.

About 2000-3000 people visit the Naples Zoo every day

During the season, Mulvina said, the zoo attracts approximately 2,000 to 3,000 visitors per day. The loss of income from Thursday's closing would be anywhere from $28,000 to $42,000 in admission fees. He said the zoo's annual operating budget is about six million dollars.
